Portfolios Versus Testing

For those who have a child with special needs, I would suggest the portfolio option if it is available in your state. The child isn't pressured to perform in a testing situation, which can be very stressful, and may not go well due to the child's needs anyway. Instead choose to do a portfolio and find a reviewer who is sensitive to children with special challenges. A special education teacher may be a good resource. Try to build a relationship with your reviewer so she will be familiar with your situation and your child.
